The Benefits of Thieves Oil
Who thought that we’d be discussing the best hand sanitizer to use, or what mask to wear out of the house? As Covid-19 has carried on, we have found great solace in boosting our immune system and indulging in some fun DIYs with Marseilles Thieves oil.
We want to share with you a bit of the history behind Thieves oil, its many uses, and how it can be used in household DIYs to help keep you and your family healthy!
The History
There is fascinating folklore around the origin of Thieves oil. In 1413, the bubonic plague struck France, and a group of sailors was arrested for robbing the victims dying of the plague. This was a crime that was punishable by burning alive! The judge was willing to be more lenient towards the sentencing of the sailors if they could share the secret remedy that kept them healthy. It turns out that the sailors were unemployed spice merchants, due to the closure of France’s seaports. They created an herbal infusion that was applied to various body parts to protect them from infection!
Wild Creek Naturals now continues the tradition of Thieves oil by creating balms and blends that contain the ingredients of this ancient remedy. The Thieves oil blend consists of five essential oils:
Clove
Lemon
Eucalyptus
Rose
Cinnamon Bark
Now, you might be wondering, “what do I use Thieves oil for?” This ancient concoction has a wide range of uses, including:
Cleaning
Reducing Inflammation
Improving Health
Soothing bug bites
And more!
DIYs
Besides topically applying Thieves oil with a carrier oil, there are many ways that you can include it in DIYs to help boost your immune system! Here are two of our favorites:
Hand Cleaner
Ingredients:
8 ounce bottle
4.8 ounces of 99% rubbing alcohol
3 ounces water
5 ml Marseilles Remedy Thieves-Style Oil
Instructions:
Shake and spray locally on counters, doorknobs, light switches, and your hands.
*Note: While Marseilles Remedy is naturally antibacterial it does need to be mixed with at least 60% alcohol to be effective as a hand cleaner. This means that the percentage of alcohol in the mixture needs to be at least 60%, so if you are mixing it with water or any other carrier ( like aloe gel), you should use a stronger percentage of rubbing alcohol.
Natural Spray Cleaner
Ingredients:
500 ml base:
Distilled white vinegar
Vodka
Rubbing Alcohol
Distilled water (you can also use tap water)
30 drops Marseille’s Remedy oil
15 ml lemon juice (you can leave this out)
Instructions
Combine the base, water, essential oils, and lemon juice in a shaker bottle and shake to combine. Add to a spray bottle and keep refrigerated when not using. It should last up to three weeks.
